Kuluyuk Chicken (Sweet and Sour Chicken) is a dish that originates from China or Tiongkok (its mandarin name: Gu Lao Rou). In this dish, the chicken is fried first, then poured with sweet and sour sauce. The chicken part that is usually used is the boneless chicken breast because it is very easy to cut into small pieces. Before frying, the chicken breast pieces are marinated with several spices to add flavor to the chicken meat, and cornstarch to make the surface of the chicken meat thicker. When frying the Kuluyuk Chicken, make sure the chicken is submerged in oil. Also when removing chicken from the oil, make sure the chicken must be cooked and dried evenly. Tomato sauce and sugar are 2 ingredients that make the sauce taste sour and sweet, and can make the sauce thicken, which is the characteristic of the Kuluyuk Chicken sauce. For the strength of sweetness or sourness, it can be adjusted to our desired taste. When the sauce is poured over the chicken, it will become a bit mushy. But that's okay, this is precisely what makes people like this food (you can separate the sauce and chicken if you want). People love Kuluyuk Chicken because of the sweet and sour taste attached to the chicken meat. In general, Kuluyuk Chicken can be complemented with chopped carrots and red chilies, and eaten with warm rice.
Put the chicken fillet into a bowl, then add soy sauce, salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Mix well and leave it for 20 minutes.
Sweet Sour Sauce: Saute the chopped garlic and onion in a little oil until fragrant.
Add the chopped carrots and green onions, and stir until the carrots are wilted.
Add water, tomato sauce, chili sauce, chicken powder, and sesame oil. Stir well until it boils and thickens, and make sure the taste is sweet and sour (if it's not sour enough, you can add tomato sauce). Turn off the heat and set aside.
Add 1 egg to the chicken fillet and mix well.
Mix all the Dry Batter (see the recipe above).
Coat the chicken fillet with the Dry Batter.
Make sure the oil is hot enough when you want to fry the chicken fillet. You can fry it until golden brown, then remove and put it on a plate.
Pour the Sweet Sour Sauce over the fried chicken fillet, then serve with warm rice and other side dishes.
